All suppliers to Austrian federal government must submit e-invoices through the USP (Unternehmensserviceportal). Both ebInterface and Peppol formats are accepted. The UID (VAT ID) is required for proper identification.
B2B e-invoicing is currently voluntary but widely adopted. Austria is expected to implement mandatory B2B e-invoicing under the EU ViDA directive, likely between 2026-2028.
Austria accepts both ebInterface (national standard) and Peppol BIS Billing 3.0. The ebInterface format has been updated to version 6.0 and aligns with EN 16931. Digital signatures are optional but recommended.
B2G non-compliance results in invoice rejection. B2B penalties will be defined with the upcoming mandate.
