- It depends on your need: use the Format Finder if you are unsure which e-invoice format your country requires. Use the Invoice Validator to check an existing e-invoice for compliance. Use the PDF Converter to transform PDF invoices into structured e-invoice formats. Use the Invoice Generator to create new compliant e-invoices from scratch.
- Are the e-invoicing tools free to use?
- Yes, the online tools are free to use with no account required. The Format Finder, Invoice Validator and Invoice Generator cost nothing to check and preview. The first verified download every 30 days is free. After that a verified download is €1.90, or €9/month for Unlimited; the Team plan for API, CLI and CI access is €49/month.
- How does the Format Finder work?
- The Format Finder asks 4 quick questions about your business: which country you operate in, whether you invoice government or businesses, which ERP system you use, and whether you need Peppol connectivity. Based on your answers, it recommends the correct e-invoice format (XRechnung, Factur-X, Peppol BIS, etc.) with links to relevant validation tools and country guides.
- What does the Format Finder tool do?
- The Format Finder identifies which e-invoice format your uploaded document uses (UBL, CII, XRechnung, Factur-X, FatturaPA, Peppol BIS, etc.) and tells you which countries accept it. Upload any XML or PDF/A-3 invoice and get instant format identification with confidence scoring.
- How accurate is format detection?
- Format detection is based on XML namespace analysis, schema validation, and structural pattern matching — not heuristics. It correctly identifies all EN 16931-compliant formats including hybrid PDF/A-3 documents (ZUGFeRD/Factur-X). Detection accuracy is 99.9% for well-formed documents.
- Can the Format Finder recommend which format to use?
- Yes. Based on the destination country and whether the invoice is B2G or B2B, the Format Finder recommends the optimal format. For example, it will recommend XRechnung for German B2G invoices, Factur-X for French exchanges, and Peppol BIS 3.0 for cross-border EU transactions.
- Is the Format Finder free to use?
- Yes. The Format Finder is free for all users, including those without an Invoice Navigator account. It's part of our free tools suite alongside the online validator. For programmatic format detection, use the /v1/detect endpoint in our API (requires an API key).
