Overview

Factur-X is France's hybrid e-invoice format, developed jointly with Germany as a unified Franco-German standard. It is technically identical to ZUGFeRD 2.0 and enables easy cross-border invoicing between the two countries.

Background

Factur-X emerged from collaboration between French (FNFE-MPE) and German (FeRD) e-invoicing associations. Released in 2017, it ensures compatibility between the two major EU economies and simplifies trade documentation.

Key Requirements

Factur-X invoices must be PDF/A-3 documents with embedded CII XML, using one of five conformance profiles. For French B2G invoicing via Chorus Pro, the EN 16931 or Extended profile is typically required.

  • PDF/A-3 with embedded XML (identical to ZUGFeRD 2.0)
  • Five conformance profiles
  • Accepted on Chorus Pro
  • EN 16931 compliant

Technical Specifications

Implementing Factur-X follows the same approach as ZUGFeRD 2.0. French businesses should ensure their invoices meet Chorus Pro requirements and include mandatory French fields like SIRET numbers.

  • PDF/A-3 format
  • Cross-Industry Invoice (CII) XML
  • Profiles: Minimum, Basic WL, Basic, EN 16931, Extended

Business Impact

Factur-X simplifies Franco-German trade and positions businesses for France's upcoming B2B mandate. As Chorus Pro already accepts Factur-X, early adoption helps businesses prepare for broader e-invoicing requirements.
